Learning How to Arrange Flowers!

Sunday, 3 July 2016

If you know me or have been following my blog for a while you probably know that I'm a fairly big fan of flowers.  A bunch of fresh blooms on my dining table or fire place just fills me with joy while they brighten up the room.  In the summer my mum picks me fresh bundles from her allotment and if I pass any while I'm doing the shopping I will usually grab some.  It only takes one glance at my Instagram to convince you I'm obsessed!

On Tuesday, after a lovely afternoon of catching up with Emily from Mermaid Gossip, we popped along to a flower arranging workshop in a beautiful little village in Somerset, home to Flowers by Passion.  Jo welcomed us in to her gorgeous studio/workshop which was filled with amazing vases and buckets of flowers everywhere you looked - it was pretty much my dream space!

We chose a beautiful vase from Dartington Crystal, gathered around the table and watched in awe as Jo threw together an amazing flower arrangement.  Some great tips I learnt were to make a grid on the top of the vase with clear floral tape so that your stems stay in place and to add way more foliage than you think!  Always cut the stems at an angle and consider height and shape as you add each one, if its a centre piece on a table then you can keep spinning the vase to make sure it is pretty from all angles but if its destined for a fireplace, like mine, you can keep it all front facing.

It was such a lovely evening and one I could happily do over and over again - flower workshop in my  back garden is now the ultimate goal!
