Colouring in for grown ups | Secret Garden by Johanna Basford

Monday, 10 August 2015

I have been known to spend an evening or three getting quite engrossed, colouring in all of Charlie's colouring books, I cant help it, the combination of zoning out and being a bit OCD staying in all the lines, is addictive.  I have seen the colouring books for adults around for a while so when I was browsing in the lovely Cass Art on Park Street in Bristol I took the plunge and purchased a beautiful Secret Garden postcard colouring book by Johanna Basford.  I bought some super fine colouring pens and basically skipped out of the shop with excitement.  The illustrations are beautiful and I'm hoping I will manage to colour one of them in so beautifully that I can frame it, so far I'm a bit rubbish.  The fact that I was basing my skill level from my two years olds colouring book says a lot, but I'm keen and its sooooo relaxing.  Like, so bloody relaxing.

Can anyone recommend the best fine pens to use for this type of thing?  I like the ones I have but some of the colours bleed in to each other.  Seasoned colour-inners out there, fill me in, what am I missing out on?
