Summer lips: Top Shop's Rio Rio

Tuesday, 6 May 2014

The perfect summer lip shade has been on my wish list for a while, I already own too many pinks, as you know if you read my blog regularly, so an easy to wear orange was my next obvious choice.  I stumbled across Rio Rio in Top Shop the other day and thought it could be a contender, I haven't tried many of the Top Shop lip products yet but I always find the gorgeous shades on offer very tempting.  This is one of their matte lipsticks, it offers a lo-hot of pigment but isn't the easiest to use because of that.  It goes on really smoothly with a satin finish at first and dries to a matte finish, the colour last fairly well on the lips but needs retouching after drinking and eating.  I find it's slightly drying if your lips aren't in the best condition but I apply a small amount of lip balm before applying and it looks great.  This is the loveliest shade for an easy summer makeup and looks great with a bit of bronzer and mascara.  Above, you can see me wearing it on a couple of different days (just for funsies).   Moustache and all, you lucky buggers.

If you haven't worn an orange before and you're a bit nervous about such a loud shade then I recommend trying a balm or balm stain before you go for a full on, super pigmented matte lipstick.  Revlon do some great crayon style, easy to use lip products like the Kissable Lip balm Stain in Rendezvous and the  ColorBurst Matte Balm in Audacious, go and have a peruse of the Boots shelves, there's a shade of orange for everyone.  Bright shades tend to bring out any redness and imperfections in the skin so if you are someone who doesn't usually wear much on the skin you might find you need a few more blobs of concealer here and there but nothing major.

I'd love to know what your favourite orange lip product is!
